What is the concept of `Umrah? How did it start, and what is its purpose?

Dear scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. What is the number of pebbles that should be thrown during Hajj?

Some people think that if a person does one of the actions that are forbidden while in ihram, that he or she has to offer a sacrifice, or fast for three days, or feed six poor persons, and that the person can choose whichever of these three he or she wants. Is this correct?

Salam alaikum!  Before Hajj, the Haram in Makkah becomes very full.  People often pray in the Musallah halls in hotels surrounding the Haram, in which tey hear the Imam of the Haram, and follow him in Jama'a prayer.  Is this correct? I want to pefrom Hajj-e-Ifrad or Hajj-e-Qiran. I want o know that if i perform Saee before the fajr of 8th zilhajj (i.e. on the 6th or 7th of zilhajj or night before the 8th zilhajj) would it suffice for hajj saee or will i have to do it again on the 10thof Zil hajj. Thanks

Asalam Alaikam,Inshallah, My husband and I are going for Hajj this year. I will be on my monthly period when we first leave the United States. My question is Should I get into the State of Ihram at the Meeqat in the Plane and do all the rights of Umrah except for the Tawaf and when I make Gushul, then do the Tawaf? Or would it be better If I do not adapt the Ihram in the plane and then go back to the Meeqat and adopt Ihram for Umrah after I have made my Ghusul? If the first option is better, will I be in the State of Ihram for the rest of my period until I make ghusul and then the tawaf? During Hajj I saw many women covering their face (wearing niqab) when in state of ihram and during tawaf. It is my understanding that covering  face is prohibited during Hajj espeicially when in state of ihram. Am I wrong?

I have an occasional flatulence problem.  My problem is worse during fajar and alright for some prayers.  There have been times when I have to repeat my wudu 3 or 4 or even more times for the same namaz.  There are times when I can complete the whole namaz.  I was lucky enough to go for hajj alhamdullilah this year with my husband and my problem got worse, I do sometimes imagine that my wudu has broken so will repeat it just to ensure that I have wudu.  I think I MAY have broken wind during tawaf e ziayara but was not sure so repeated the tawaf with fresh wudu, however I THINK the same happened again I am not sure if it just my clothes rubbing against me, I just don?t know, and feel really distraught about the whole thing, I keep thinking whether I had wudu or not. I don?t even know whether my hajj was ok or whether I need to do it again or what??!! I also have piles (haemorrhoids) which got worse during hajj.  It may have been that rubbing against my skin.  I always doubt whether I have my wudu. As for the tawaf I know that if I was sure that I had broken wind then I would definitely had repeated my wudu but I wasn?t sure. At times when I do break wind I definitely know, but my problem is worse whilst praying namaz. I think I may have just let something tiny out without being knowing or being sure. I just keep concentrating on whether something is coming out instead of the prayer.  I would never go to the holy mosque in the morning I prayed in my hotel room because of my problem so that I was able to repeat my wudu if needed.  I feel really depressed and embarrassed about the whole situation please reply soon.  Was my tawaf and hajj ok??  Please tell what I should do.  Do I have to go for hajj again?? Respected sheikh, as-salamu `alaykum. I performed Hajj before I married, al-hamdulillah. Now my wife wants to perform Hajj, and I have other important financial obligations (chil dren's education and so on). Is Hajj fard (obligatory) on her in this situation? If not, does she have to wait? If she has enough money for herself only, and I do not have sufficient money for the Hajj expenses for myself and four children (since we cannot leave them here, as we do not have any close relatives here), will the Hajj still be fard on her, or does she have to wait till I, as the mahram, can also afford to accompany her? If a woman has her monthly period during her stay in Makkah or Madinah During Hajj, is it completely impermissible for her to enter the Sacred Mosque in Makkah or the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah? As salamu alekumI trust this email finds Sheikh in good health inshaAllahI would like to ask Sheikh a questionPlease understand that the question is more for informing myself and my immediate family.Noting that Cape Town Muslims have many peculiar practices, they nevertheless some how or another justify these. It seems "normal" though for people to do things believing it being right although it is not confirmed by the sunnah. One practice in particular that is common, which in my own limited research I could not find,  is the adhan when people depart especially for hajj or umrah. On the day of Arafat, we started from Arafat to Muzdalifa in the evening at 10 PM since we could not get a vehicle to go early. We could not walk and go to Muzdalifa as my old. parents were also with me. Due to crowd and traffic jam, we reached Muzdalifa at 6 am in the morning and missed the maghrib, isha prayers as well as fajr prayers. I could only pray khaza prayers for fajr. As-salamu `alaykum,I live inCanada, and I am flying to Saudi Arabia for a business trip, but I am also planning to do `Umrah, in sha' Allah. I have two questions as follows:1. Do I have to enter Makkah in the state of ihram or can I delay this until I start doing the `Umrah after my business trip is over?2. Should I pray qasr (shorten the number of rak`ahs in prayer) if it happens that I miss the prayer in congregation or I don't have to pray qasr in Saudi Arabia ? My friend told me that I don't have to because "it is the heart of Islam."
