A pilgrim is recommended to be well-acquainted with the rituals of Hajj before going to Makkah so that he will perform it properly.

As for the issue of delaying Sa’y (i.e., walking between Safa and Marwa, for some days during Hajj, the has remains valid as long as he performed it, even if it is performed after a few days. Thus, such a person will not be required to give any ransom.

ON this issue, a prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh MuhammadIqbalNadvi, states:

As long as he performed Sa`y, even if he was late, there is no compensation due.

If the pilgrim does not perform Sa`y he has not finished the required rituals of the Hajj.

Moreover, Wael `Abdel-Mut`aal Shihab, a Shariah researcher adds,

It is important to know that if you are performing tamattu` Hajj, you need not to make Sa`y after Tawaf Al-Ifadah. The Sa`y of `Umrah is enough. Some scholars, however, deem it recommended to make a second Sa`y.

If you are performing ifrad or qiran Hajj and you have already made Sa`y after the Tawaf of arrival, you also need not to make another Sa`y. If you did not make Sa`y after the Tawaf of arrival, then you have to make it after Tawaf Al-Ifadah.
