It is to be noted that the Qur’an contains the pure word of Allah. Not one word of it is not divine. Not a single word has been deleted from its text. The Book has been handed down to our age in its complete and original form since the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Allah has promised to preserve the Qur’an intact until the Last Hour. He has done it all through the centuries. From the time the Book began to be revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dictated its text to scribes, and thus it was committed to writing as well as memory. The Qur’an is the only scripture that is preserved in its entirety both in writing and in memory from the day of its revelation until our time — 1,433 years later. Any false copies will never be accepted as the Qur’an, which cannot be anything but the Word of Allah in its entirety.

Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states the following: Allah has promised to preserve the Qur’an intact until the Last Hour. He has done it all through the centuries. The Qur’an has thus been impeccably preserved unaltered and untampered with, like no other scripture in the world. Through the grace of our Lord, this is how the Qur’an will remain, no matter how many false copies are made and distributed. These false copies will never be accepted as the Qur’an, which cannot be anything but the Word of Allah in its entirety.

Even if, may Allah forbid, all of the printed copies of the Qur’an were to disappear from the face of the earth, it would be restored, as it has been memorized by millions of people, young and old, throughout the world. So never harbour any doubts about the authenticity of the Qur’an or the divine promise of its preservation. Allah says: [We have revealed the Reminder and We have taken upon ourselves the duty of preserving it intact] (Al-Hijr 15:9).

Our duties as Muslims towards the Qur’an are the following:

1. Learn as much of it as possible and read and ponder its lessons

2. Teach the Qur’an to others
