Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Ash-Shinqiti, Director of the Islamic Center of South Plains, Lubbock, Texas, states: “In principle, filmmaking is permissible as long as the theme of the movie goes in line with the teachings of Islam. Some scholars still object to acting as they consider it tantamount to lying, but this objection is incorrect as acting is found at least in one of the stories in the Qur’an, namely the story of Prophet Dawud, peace be upon him.
Violent scenes are not forbidden in its totality especially if the movie is not directed to children. However, the immoral scenes that are largely found in western movies constitute the major problem from the Islamic perspective.
Of course, it is desperately needed that Muslims have this tool of mass communication in order to convey the universal message of Islam and give the human picture of Muslims.“
