Imam Muslim reported in his book ‘Sahih Muslim‘ on the authority Jabir “Ali may Allah be pleased with him, came from Yemen with a Hady, and the Messenger of Allah brought a Hady from Al-Madinah, Fatimah had put on a dyed garment and applied kohl to her eyes, and he (‘Ali) said: “I went to the Prophet to complain about that and find out whether she could do that, I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, Fatima had put on a dyed garment and applied kohl to her eyes, and she said, the Messenger of Allah told me to do that. ‘He said: ‘She is telling the truth, she is telling the truth, I told her to do that.”

This Hadith indicates the permissibility of the use of kohl provided that it is not obviously noticed. This is because the woman is enjoined to hide her adornment as much as possible. However, if the kohl is what will make the eye more attractive, then it is forbidden because it has fallen under the ruling of adornment.
