On the significance of names, Dr. Rajab Abu Maleeh, Ph. D. in sharia  stated:

“Names have a great significance, so the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) urged us to give our children nice names and not bad ones. There may be an effect on the character of a person, but it is not a necessary thing.

Calling our children with a non-Arabic names is permissible on condition that they do not contradict with sharia rules such as names of idols, Satan, and names specified for unbelievers. It is also disliked to give our children names of singers and dissolute persons or sexual names.”
