In Sunnah, there is no report that says either the Messenger (peace be upon him) or his Companions (may Allah’s mercy be upon them) recited any part of the Qur’aan over any grave after burial. What is affirmed without contradiction is that he (peace be upon him) made duaa’ (prayers) alone for the deceased. However, whenever he was finished with the burial, he would say to his Companions: “Seek forgiveness for your brother, as he is being presently questioned.”
