Dr. Monzer Kahf, a prominent economist and counselor states: “A gift makes one the owner of this money regardless of whether it is from a Muslim or non-Muslim. The only exception is when you know that the thing that is given to you itself is in fact owned by another person (not the one who gave it) and it came into the hand of the giver in an unlawful way such as theft.”
