Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azharite scholar, states: Taking a small part from the clitoris makes the woman’s desire moderate which helps her to be satisfied in the same time along with her husband. So, this would be better for her and her husband. Contemporary doctors support this meaning, i.e. taking a small part from the clitoris is better for the wife and the husband.

Muslim scholars differ regarding this issue and the most correct view is that it is preferable (mustahabb) rather than obligatory. In case of males, circumcision is obligatory.”
