Zeinab Al-`Alawani, Instructor of Fiqh and Islamic Studies, Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences, states the following: “If there is any chance to avoid going to these restaurants by choosing restaurants that only serve non-pork items, then it will be recommended.

However, if there are no other restaurants in the area that has these kinds of foods, so it will be allowed in case of necessities or emergencies. We can simply ask the chief if he or she could kindly wash the knife or machine they use for cutting pork before using it for our food, and they usually do it.”
