Sheikh `Abd Al-Khaliq Al-Sharif, a prominent scholar and Da`yah, has responded to this issue as thus:
‘The basic principle is the prohibition of working in such places as long as a Muslim finds any other job. But if one is already working there, then there are some recent scholars who have permitted this in case of necessity. But a Muslim still need to find another job. Meanwhile, he should seek Allah’s forgiveness and give much sadaqah (charity)’.
