Woman’s Voice Is it `Awrah?
Assalamu aalikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu!thank you so much for all your efforts, may Allah reward you greatly and bless you with knowlodge, determination and patience. I usually fall asleep shortly after I go to bed. But some days ago I just couldn't, I kept awake for a time that seemed like hours. I kept listening surat Al-Qiyammah in my mind again and again, with no interruption. It is a surat that I used to like because of the "melody" of its words, but which I started to appreciate even more after I had read carefully the translation of Yusuf Ali and his commentary and finally memorized the surat. I recite it frequently in my salawat and in an audible voice when doing my shores at home. My question is, did this mean anything or was it just a meaningless insomnia? One more question related to the above, if it's not an abuse. Is it wrong for a Muslim woman to recite the Holy Qur'an in an audible voice? I've heard some saying that the voice is part of the awra, but I can recite the Qur'an in a business like voice, no need to soften it. Is it wrong still? My in-laws or some other relatives of my husband sometimes ask me to recite what I know from the Qur'an, as it is a strange thing for them to listen to: a non-Arab converted Muslim. I usually refuse as I don't know if it's haram or makruh, unless there are only women present. Jazakum Allahu khayran
