Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states: “There is no explicit text either in the Qur’an or hadith stating that one must kill everyone who fails to pray or give zakah; we do not know either the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or any of the pious caliphs ordering killing of people who neglect salah.“
