Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azharite scholar, states: “If one does not know Arabic at all, it is permissible in the time being to perform the 5 obligatory Prayers in English only on one condition that they start immediately to learn reciting Al-Fatiha in Arabic. Once they learn reciting Al-Fatiha in Arabic, they have to recite it in Arabic while performing their Prayers. Then, proceed to learn another shorts surahs in Arabic and the tasbih and takbir also and this would be easy insha’ Allah.
