Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states: “If one’s parents hypothetically passed away as Christians, it does not necessarily mean that they are consigned to hellfire; as Imams such as Ghazali and others have taught us those who did not receive the message of Prophet Muhamamd (peace and blessings be upon him) will be judged by the message they had received before. So let us not simply consign everyone who does not die as a Muslim to hell fire. This judgment belongs to Allah; He alone judges everyone. We may pray for our parents in the manner of Jesus peace be upon him, “Lord, if You punish them (You have a right to do so) for they are Your servants; if You forgive them, then You are indeed Mighty and Wise.””
