The prominent Egyptian scholar, Sheikh `Abdul-Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states the following:

“I see that it is not a problem to fast from dawn to dusk in countries where the day lasts for 14 hours or 16 hours or even little more. This is something normal we face, and it is a bearable difficulty.

However, in case there are countries where the daylight is too long or else in countries where the daylight lasts for months, one can follow a Muslim country or else one can follow the nearest country with moderate time zone where day and night resemble the case in countries with moderate time zones. All in all, Islam is the religion of easiness, and in this latter case one can choose the opinion which best suits one.”
