Hajj is the last pillar in Islam. It is incumbent on every Muslim male and female as long as they have the means to do that. Allah the Almighty says:
[Pilgrimage thereto is a duty men owe to Allah,- those who can afford the journey;] (Al-‘Imran 3.97)
Every one of us should hasten to go for Hajj once we are able to do that. We should leave this material world and respond to the call of Allah. Sister.
In response to this issue, the eminent Muslim scholar, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, the renowned Da`iyah, demonstrates:
You can make hajj by the gold value you have. Hajj worth that. It is a kind of trade you make with Allah and as He states in the Qur’an it is the trade that will never bring any kind of loss. You can buy gold any time but you cannot guarantee how long you will live or if you will have another chance or not. As for the other part of the question, your husband is not obliged to pay for your hajj expenses especially you stated that he might be unable to do that. If he can afford that and he is ready to bear the costs of hajj, then this is out of his generosity but it is not an obligation.”
