When facing a misconception about Islam, one needs to discuss it with reliable scholars and people of knowledge in order to help himself reach the truth and adhere to it and to avoid any misunderstanding or misconceptions that may lead him astray from the right path.

The prominent Muslim scholar and Da`iyah, Zeinab Mostafa, states: An apostate that’s reverting to Islam needs to regret doing such an act and feel remorse. You should declare the Shahadah another time preferably in front of some witnesses and pray to Almighty Allah to give you insight and enlighten your way.

You need to know that Islam is a life of commitment to Almighty Allah. Therefore, you are supposed to spare no effort to study and learn your faith in order to protect yourself from any misconceptions. You are supposed to increase your good deeds in order to be in constant remembrance of Almighty Allah.
Do not bother yourself too much with the thought that Almighty Allah will look at you differently and will hold this against you on the Day of Judgment. Almighty Allah is the Absolute Just. If you turn penitent to Him, sincerely regret what you did, and make a new commitment to be on the straight path, He will even replace your bad deeds with good ones: [Unless he repents, believes and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful, And whoever repents and does good has truly turned to Allah with an (acceptable) conversion.] (Al-Furqan 25: 70)
