Islam is the final divine religion sent by Allah to guide all human beings to the straight path. Man’s responsibility in the Hereafter will be judged according to his level of following that religion, and hence those who don’t believe in Islam as a religion in the first place will not be held responsible for moral violations to which Muslims are held accountable in the Hereafter.
Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Al-Shinqiti, director of the Islamic Center of South Plains, Lubbock, Texas, states the following: First of all, there is no Christian law because Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) did not bring laws to his people but he brought moral values and rather asked his people to follow the Law of Moses (peace and blessings be upon him).
Second, Islam is the final message that came from Allah and it abrogated all previous revelations. The only divine law that mankind is supposed to follow now is Islam. People who are living since Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent have no option but to follow the teachings of Islam. Allah Almighty says:(The only religion accepted by Allah is Islam ) (Aal `Imran 3:19). They will be held responsible according to that.
Finally, there is a certain rule in Islamic jurisprudence that states that disbelievers are not to be asked to follow the detailed rules of religion. That means a person who is not Muslim should be asked to accept Islam first as a principle before he or she is asked to display a good behavior. The problem with Christians today is not about details like kissing another person on the cheeks; it is about the denial of the last testament (the Qur’an) that Allah sent as guidance to mankind.
