Dr. Muhammad Abu Laylah, professor of the Islamic Studies & Comparative Religions atAl-Azhar Univ. states: “Islam’s position regarding Jesus (peace and blessings be upon him) is that he is a mighty Prophet of God. All Muslims love Jesus and his mother Mary (peace be upon them both) from their hearts. This is part of our faith.
As regards celebrating his birthday, we cannot generalize this because you can see that some Muslims are celebrating or participating in the celebrations of Jesus birthday. It can be seen that many Muslims do not celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) bearing into consideration that as a nation, Muslims love Prophet Muhammad from all their heart. They think that they have to celebrate his birthday everyday through following his example, obeying Allah’s commands and staying away from His prohibitions, loving people, being kind to them, Muslims and Non-Muslims, abiding by the moral system of Islam, etc.”
Thus, it becomes clear that some Muslims do not prefer to celebrate even the birthday of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while other celebrate it.
