Wife Going to `Umrah Despite her Husband’s Refusal

The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: This wife can go to `Umrah if this is the first `Umrah to her and she finds a mahram to be in her company while performing `Umrah. However, if she performed `Umrah before and this is a voluntary `Umrah or that her children are very young then she should not go out to perform `Umrah without her husband’s permission.

Having clarified the ruling, it is more proper if both husband and wife sit together trying to reach an agreement regarding this issue. If they cannot reach an agreement, then they should seek help and counselling from the Imam of a nearby Islamic Center or a wise friend or family member who is keen for their interest and they trust him. May Allah bless those couples and grant them happiness in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.”
