Sheikh Mohamed El-Moctar El-Shinqiti, Director of the Islamic Center of South Plains, Lubbock, Texas, states: “It is allowed to pray with any clothing that people wear in other times outside the Prayers, although it is recommended to have special clothing for Friday. As for clothes with writings on, if they are attractive then it is disliked to wear them. If the writings contain expressions, images or symbols that are contradictory to Islamic beliefs or rulings, such as the cross, then it is NOT ALLOWED to wear them. The same rule of prohibition applies to any t-shirts advertising something that is against Islam, such as alcohol, smoking, celebrities known for their immorality, etc.”
