Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada , states: “Allah mentions repeatedly in the Qur’an that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the one who interprets the Qura’n for us. His words and practices are the perfect explanation of the mandates of the Qur’an. So the verses in the Qur’an on such matters were practiced by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and they were passed on to the community through channels that cannot be doubted. So there is no conflict between the two. We trust the Prophet’s interpretati
on better than our own personal opinions, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cannot be compared to mail delivery man who simply delivered the Qur’an to us; rather he lived by it; we are told to emulate his beautiful examples in all matters pertaining to our Deen. May Allah make us love His Messenger and emulate his beautiful examples in order to gain the pleasure of Allah–ameen.”
