Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:
“The first ten days of Dhul hijjah are indeed extremely meritorious. Their excellence can be gauged from the fact that Allah has made an oath on them in the Qur’an: (And the Dawn and the ten nights!) (Al-Fajr: 1-2). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said, “There are no days wherein good works are more excellent (rewarding) than these ten days (of Dhul hijjah).”
Concerning the good deeds that are recommended in these days: They include optional Prayers, fasts, charities, and all sorts of good works. One should pay extra attention to dhikr (remembrance of Allah), dua`s (supplication) and reading of the Qur’an, besides the prescribed sunnah of udhhiyah (qurbani or sacrifice) in the days of `eid. All of the good works will be rewarded in many folds in these highly meritorious and excellent days.
May Allah inspire us to increase good works in these special days and may He shower us all with His mercy and grace, and make us worthy of entering jannah-ameen.
