The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “While performing prayer, it is permissible to recite only one verse or part of a surah (not the whole surah) on condition that this verse or part of surah gives a complete meaning. For example, there is nothing wrong to recite ayatul kursi and then go into ruku` because it gives a complete meaning. So, the minimum number of verses that can be recited after Al-Fatihah can be one verse that gives a complete meaning. However, it goes without saying that reciting large part of the Qur’an incurs more reward.”
