Sheikh Muhammad Nur Abdullah, President of the ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) and member of the Fiqh Council of North America, states: “It is not fard obligatory to wear a new cloth on Eid day, it is rather sunnah and however for those who cannot afford to buy a new one, we cannot make it a general statement that Muslims should not wear new clothes. We should, however, sympathize with them and donate generously. But also `Eid is a time of joy that cannot be underestimated.”
