Scholars who fear Allah are the ones who shoulder the responsibility of bringing back misguided Muslims to the straight path. In the past, there were great scholars who were the driving force behind activating their respective societies to fight against the oppressors, and still today, scholars have a significant role to play. If we want to change our conditions, let us join hands together and stand as one unit facing the tribulations surrounding us. The weakness of the Muslim Ummah today was mentioned in a well-known Prophetic hadith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “Nations are about to scheme against you in the same way as greedy eaters vie with one another at the dining-table.” One of the companions, (may Allah be pleased with them all), asked: “O Messenger of Allah! Will that be related to being few in number?” The Prophet said: “No, but your huge number will have little effect, and (Allah) will cast al-wahan in your hearts.” They said: “O! Messenger of Allah, what does al-wahan mean?” He replied, “Your hearts are strongly attached to life’s luxuries and you feel strong aversion to death.” (Reported by Ahmad and Abu-Dawud)
Dr. Maher As-Sousi, deputy dean of the faculty of Shari`ah at the Islamic University in Palestine, states the following: In the past, Muslim scholars played significant roles in facing the crises the Muslim Ummah encountered. For example, the great scholar Al-`Izz ibn `Abdus-Salam had an instrumental role in awakening the Muslims to their responsibilities towards resisting and rebelling against the occupation of the Tartars who were crushing everything in their way in an attempt to dominate the world. He managed to revive religious motivation in the Muslims, both rulers and ruled, so that they could confront the crushing forces of the Tartars.

Mindful of Almighty Allah and their religious responsibility, Muslim scholars nowadays can achieve similar results with regard to awakening the Muslims to the dangers that beset them. They can guide the Muslims back to the right path and remind them of the importance of fulfilling their duties towards Allah. They can inculcate in the minds and hearts of Muslims that the only way to achieve victory is through returning to Almighty Allah, and exerting their utmost in defending His cause.
almighty Allah says:(O you who believe! If you help (the cause of) Allah, He will help you and make firm your feet) (Muhammad 47: 7)
almighty Allah also says: (Allah changes not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts…) (Ar-Ra`d 13: 11)
this is the responsibility the Muslim scholars are to undertake amid the present conditions that beset the Muslim Ummah.
Concerning the Muslims themselves, there is a lot to do in order to help the Ummah overcome the crises it faces.
First of all, they are to return to Almighty Allah and be sure that victory is to be achieved only through the aid of Almighty Allah and that all the super powers on earth are not to be compared to the power of Almighty Allah. If Muslims trust Almighty Allah and believe that with Him resides all support, Allah will not disappoint them. He, the Almighty says in a Qudsi hadith: “I am as My servant expects Me to be.” This means that when one sincerely returns to Almighty Allah, believing that He, the Almighty will forgive, support, and accept one’s repentance, Allah will not let one down.
Secondly, the Muslims can give financial donations to help their fellow Muslims who fight to defend their rights and homelands against the aggressive occupiers of Muslim territories.
thirdly, they can show serious interest in the diverse issues concerning Muslims via attempting to remove the distortions that are blatantly spread by Zionist propaganda about Islam as a religion calling for bloodshed and terrorism.
This requires Muslims to give up all trivial diversions that the media uses in an attempt to preoccupy them and instead, develop serious awareness of the dangers that beset their Muslim Ummah.
