As far as Islamic Shari`ah is concerned, Islam permits aborting fetus for valid reasons. However, doing that for no valid reasons is tantamount to killing a soul with no right especially if this has been committed after 12 weeks of pregnancy.
The prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Director and Imam of Al-Falah Islamic Center, Oakville, Ontario, Canada, states: “This is a normal situation for the permissibility of abortion as long as it takes place before the soul is blown the breath of life into, and this is done when the embryo is 16 weeks. In this case, if the medical tests confirm such problems, and the parents decide to abort the embryo, they can do it before the 16th week.”
