IS music haram or not in islam...?i m confused coz at some places i have sudied,i is haram except duff but at some it is said that its not haram....what is true????tell me

Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. Where I live, everyone, including religious people, plays music at weddings and this is customary. I do not listen to music because I heard it is haram, but would it be permissible to play music just at the wedding reception? I know my wife's family could not imagine having a wedding celebration without some music. Jazakum Allahu Khayran.

Is cracking of knuckles and listening or playing to music prohibited in Islam?

I have read all your comment on music and television but I am still confused.  What is good music to hear and what is bad.  I know that music that is vulgar or sends a bad message is wrong.  But how about nice soft romantic music or songs.  Does it matter who is singing, whether they are Muslim or not.  Are songs that have poetry about love okay.  And with television, are comdies okay to watch.  How about scary movies or suspense, or action movies.  I know that if they portray nudity or sexual content that would be wrong.  What if you were to forward the inappropriate parts.  Also how about Pakistani dramas are they okay to watch? Indian movies?

Where I live, all people play music during their wedding.  I is customary that music is played and the women (who are completely separate from the men) dance and cheer for the bride.  Even the religious people here play music during the wedding.  Also, the Muslims where I live refuse to dance to Nasheed.I do not listen to music because I heard it was haraam, but would it be permissible to play music just on the wedding reception?  I know my wife's family could not imagine having a wedding celebration without some music.

Assalamu Alaikum, I just wanted to know, is music haram? If the music I listen to doesnt contain explicit lyrics, and profanity. If so, can you tell me the Ayah in the Qur'an or if it's in the Hadiths, the hadith. Secondly what kind of music, if any, would be considered halal?

What is the ruling on downloading (music that is acceptable) from the internet in islam. In some countries this is  considered copyright infrigment while in other countries this is  not wholly illegal. When it comes to this what should one do?

Is it a great sin listening to music; if so how do you rid your self of them?

As-Salamu `alaykum. My question is about music in Islam. I am referring to qawali music, which consists of songs praising Allah and /or His Prophet Muhammad, like the music of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Is listening to western music permissible?

Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. Is it haram to learn to play the violin? I am very fond of it. Listening to it soothes me, and I think it will be a great companion (even though it's non-living) when we do not find the support of people around us. But before enrolling in this course, I wanted to make sure whether or not it is haram. I intend to do this for my personal use only and not to entertain people or make money.
