Regarding Muslims’ belief on the books in the hands of Ahl al-Kitab, Dr. RajabAbu Mleeh, Ph. D. in sharia stated:
“There is no any confusion regarding what Muslims believe in Al-Tawrah of Moses and the Gospel of `Isa. Muslims believe that the existing Books of Ahl Al-Kitab are distorted and that they are not the ones revealed to their Prophets.
This belief is stated by the verses of the Qur’an. Allah says” Do you then hope that they would believe in you, and a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Allah, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know (this).” (Al-Baqarah 2: 75)
He also says ” Of those who are Jews (there are those who) alter words from their places and say: We have heard and we disobey and: Hear, may you not be made to hear! and: Raina, distorting (the word) with their tongues and taunting about religion…” (Al-Nisaa‘ 4: 46)
This is the belief of Muslims according to which they debate with the Christians or the Jews and they are fully aware that the books in the Christians’ or Jews’ hands are not the true original Books of Allah.”
