The prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Director and Imam of Al-Falah Islamic Center, Oakville, Ontario, Canada , states: “This is a customary way of knowing virginity, but it is neither accurate from the medical perspective nor can it be taken as a ground for divorce or charge of zina (adultery/fornication). A woman can lose her virginity naturally by some sort of accident or surgery in her private parts [or even through menses], and therefore this loss of virginity cannot serve as a proof that she had illicit affairs before marriage.”
