`Umrah is an act of worship. Allah says: (Perform the Hajj and `Umrah for Allah…) (Al-Baqarah 2:196). We pray Allah to help us all perform `Umrah in order to get its great reward as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said “The performance of `Umrah is expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous ones. And the reward for Hajj Mabrur (pilgrimage accepted by Allah) is nothing but Paradise.” Although Muslim scholars have different views whether `Umrah is sunnah or obligatory, every Muslim, who has the means to perform `Umrah, should hasten to perform it to get the great reward it entails.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have performed four `Umrahs.
Commenting on this, we cite what Sheikh Sayyed Sabiq states in his well-known book, Fiqh Us-Sunnah:
Ibn `Abbas reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed four `Umrahs in his lifetime: `Umrah of Hudaybiyah, one that he performed to make up for another missed `Umrah, a third that he performed going forth from Al-Ji`ranah, and the fourth he combined with his Hajj (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah).
