Sheikh `Atiyyah Saqr, former head of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, states: “It is mentioned in Al-`Adawi’s book, Mashariq al-Anwar, that Heaven (or Paradise) has eight gates as reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Among these eight gates there is a gate called Ar-Rayyan for the fasting people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Rayyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)
In another narration, the Prophet is reported to have said: “Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for Allah’s Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, ‘O slaves of Allah! Here is prosperity.’ So, whoever was amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Rayyan; whoever was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of charity.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari) ”
At-Tabarani reported a hadith in which it is said: “There is a gate in Paradise called Ad-Duha.” This is for the people who used to offer the Duha prayer.
This is the only information he (Al-`Adawi) mentioned about the names of the gates of Paradise and though they are eight gates we do not have the names of all of them. Therefore, we should restrict ourselves to the authentic narrations only.
In his book at-Tadhkirah, Al-Qurtubi states: “There is a gate in Paradise restricted for the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) only and none except them will enter through it. The Prophet will enter through the gate of Muhammad which is the gate of mercy and repentance.”
However, what al-Qurtubi mentioned is based on weak narrations and regarding the matters of the Unseen in particular the weak narrations are not acceptable. When we enter Paradise we will know the truth, insha’Allah.”
Dearest muslim, let us all work to enter the Heaven and then, insha’Allah, we will know the names of all the gates and find what will satisfy all of us.
