Here in North America , poeple pay a great respect to pets, particularly towards dogs, probably  than any other pet.An elderly female passenger was recently upset at the airport. She requested the ticket agent to give her a copy of her itinerary. She was not happy for not seeing the name of her dog in the ticket. She complained that her pet should have been treated with dignity and respect and should have been called  by name as she considered it as her own child.When people see Muslims don't like dogs, some of them get upset and offended.I know that we consider dogs unclean. If they  touch you while wet, you have to wash seven times.I would like to ask you for your input on this matter.What does Islam view dogs in general?What should my response be when someone asks me why   we consider it unclean?Are we allowed to keep it at home?I also wonder whether  other faith communities also abhor dogs in general?Abubakar

I spend a lot of time at my cousin's house. The problem is that they own a dog, which is allowed to roam freely throughout the house and into each room. As a result of this, I don't pray at their house because I feel that it is unclean to pray where a dog roams around. Is it wrong for me to assume so, and if so, is it ok for me to go ahead and pray at their house?

I want to ask about the incident of a Muslim cab driver refusing to allow a blind woman accompanied by a guide dog into his cab. Do Islamic teachin gs forbid any contact with dogs? Is the cab driver's behavior mandated by Islam?

Alsalmo Alaykum. I have a question regarding the permissibility of owning and rasising dogs at home. Last night on an Egyptian show called "El Bait Baitak" they were hosting Dr. Ali Gomaa (Dar El Ifta Mufti) said that Imam Malik said that owning dogs, even as pets and NOT for Hunting or Guarding is allowed. I heard that many scholars said that owning dogs is Haram and allowed for Hunting & Guarding only. What opinion should i follow? I love dogs and want to own a dog to keep in my home as a pet. According to Imam Malik, i can do that and there is no problem what-so-ever, and that dogs are not Impure. What is your opinion on this matter? Am i allowed to get a pet dog or not? As-salamu `alaykum. I have come across the Hadith that says that we are only allowed to have dogs for hunting and to guard our property. My question is can we have them for profit if they are not living under our roof?

As-Salamu `alaykum! My children are due to go on a school visit to a farmyard where I expect them to get acquainted with all the farm animals. I am concerned that they will be introduced to pigs. I know that they are haram (unlawful) to eat; but is it permissible to touch them?

Asalamu 3alaikom, i read your fatwa regarding owning a dog and iunderstand perfectly but to be honest, i've been dreaming about owning a dog for a lot of reasons like protection and help but the main reason is because i really love this animal. is it haram to own them even if i took care of their hygiene? if not, is it Haram too to play with them if i dont own them?
