Using innovative ways to send peace and blessings on the Prophet PBUH

Firstly may Allah (swt) reward you in abundance in the afterlife for your efforts.  AlhumdullilahMy family originate from Pakistan and I live in a predominantly Gujrati (deobandi) area.  We have in the past a lot of bidah practices in my family which Alhumdullilah I am slowly eradicating.  The topic of Daroods is one that I am unsure of.  I understand that these are supplications to the Prophet (pbuh) and appreciate that we have one as part of our salaat but can you expand upon them, are there 50 Daroods as I have recently been informed by a Gujrati brother?  Is it bidah?  If not where in the Qur?an and hadith can they be found?  Any help would be appreciated.Barakallah Fiknassir

How to Seek Peace and Blessings for the Prophet (PBUH)

As-salamu `alaykum. We are asked to repeat “Allahumma Salli `Ala Sayyidina Muhammad” many times throughout the day. Could you please explain why? Are we asking Allah to bless the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or are we asking Allah to literally pray for him? We pray for Allah our Creator and Master, but why would Allah pray for His Messenger and Servant? Jazakum Allah khayran.

The Concept of Blessing in Islam

Dear scholars, As-Salaam `Alaykum. I have a quick question - it has to deal with a word called "blessing." In some religions, the religious leader is able to "bless" objects, food, etc - in Judaism; kosher food is food that has been blessed by a rabbi (I believe this is correct). In Hinduism food may be blessed by a Pandit (Hindu priest) when offered to a god, etc. Is there such a conduct of blessing something in Islam? Jazakum Allah khayran.

Sending Blessings Upon the Parts of the Prophet’s Body

One day I went to a mosque. A sheikh there was giving a religious lesson; he started his speech by sending blessings upon the person of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in general and then upon the parts of his body such as his hands, eyes, head, tongue, mouth, hair. What is the viewpoint of Islam regarding such form of prayer?
