It goes without saying that Muslims should set a good example for others in all aspects of life. They should take the lead in keeping the safety of the community against all evils. They should give priority to the interests and safety of the community before any individual interest. Muslims should be an example in respecting the laws of the country, taking part in its prosperity, and protecting it against evils.
Sheikh Mohamed El-Moctar El-Shinqiti, director of the Islamic Center of South Plains, Lubbock, Texas ,states: “If as muslims we find ourselves in the company of a friend dealing drugs, we don’t have to start with reporting them to the police. We should rather try to advise them individually and reform the situation privately, like taking them to counseling or speaking to them personally or through a close friend or the imam of a nearby Islamic Center.
If we exhaust all means and conclude that the person will be harming other people, then it is our Islamic and social responsibility to report them to the police who will prevent them from doing evil and harming themself and others.”
