Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hassan Ash-Shareef, an Egypt-based renowned scholar and da`iyah, says: One may get married to a second wife, a known-marriage without necessarily letting the first wife know about it, because telling the first wife about a second marriage is not a condition for the validity of the marriage contract. For example, one can get married in a city or governorate other than the city they are living in now with the current wife, in which the community knows that they are married to the woman they will be married to, and the marriage contract should be held in public and all its conditions are fulfilled.
