Marital Intimacy in Islam is anchored in natural gratification, mutual affection, and adherence to ritual purity. While physical relations between spouses are encouraged to foster love, sacred law establishes clear boundaries regarding permitted actions and prohibited practices.
Prohibition of Anal Intercourse
Anal intercourse is strictly forbidden (haram), as physical relations must occur naturally. The Quran states:
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation how you wish” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:223).
Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad warned against violating this boundary, stating:
“Cursed is he who comes to his wife in her anus” (Sunan Abi Dawud).
Similarly, the use of external aids or sex toys is strongly discouraged, as scholars consider these practices unnatural departures from divine guidance.
Oral Contact and Bodily Discharges
Oral stimulation, such as clitoral stimulation, is permissible in principle. However, swallowing or directly sucking bodily discharges—including vaginal fluids and seminal emissions—must be strictly avoided due to their ritual impurity. Spouses must maintain hygiene and dignity, ensuring that expressions of affection do not involve ingesting impure fluids.
