Sheikh Muhammad Nur Abdullah, ISNA President and Member of the Fiqh Council of North America, states the following: “The purpose of the Khutbah is to educate the Muslim community about their faith and give them directions which they can benefit from in their life and in the Hereafter.
as long as the Khutbah is educational and is based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, and address the challenges of the present time, then it is acceptable.
We as Muslims living as minorities in the west should build bridges of understanding between us and people of different faiths. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said in his sermons, “Deal kindly with Copts.” So, there is nothing wrong with speaking about Christianity and Judaism as long as the Khutbah addresses certain points relevant to our life and our attitude towards people of different faiths.”
