We would like to cite the response of a prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, to this question. He said that ‘as long as she would be observing proper Islamic hijab and dress and she would avoid physical contact, she can simply join those sport activities. She should also make sure to take all precautionary measures and protections to keep herself safe.’
Moreover, the eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da’iyah (i.e., preacher), Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, said:
“It is permissible on condition that she abides by the Islamic dress code for women. Her dress attire should cover her whole body except face and hands. It should be loose-fitting. It should not be transparent or revealing.”
Also, there should be no khalwah (privacy) or physical contact with non-mahrams. Moreover, her participation in such activities should not negatively affect her duties towards her husband and children or the other obligatory acts such as observing the prescribed prayers on time. Finally, she should be accompanied by a mahram in case she will travel to participate in such activities.”
