Dr. Abdel-Fattah `Ashoor, professor of the Exegesis of the Qur’an at Al-Azhar University, answers: “Moving to a new house is a token of joy and Divine blessings. As a Muslim, you are recommended by the Sunnah to prepare a meal that is called ‘Wakeerah‘ and to invite your neighbors to it so that you will have the opportunity to socialize with new acquaintances and that will cement the sense of brotherhood amongst you. Also this will help you adapt yourself easily to the new environment.
Also, you are recommended to say the Prophetic Du`a’ which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when entering the house, whether it is new or not.”
