The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “As a Muslim that is yearning for more reward from Allah, we are advised to leave the copies of the Qur’an on the hard drive if the electronic device is a public used computer as there may be someone else who can benefit from these copies of the Qur’an and thus we may gain more rewards. However, there is nothing wrong in deleting the Qur’an from the hard drive and this is not considered as showing disrespect towards the Qur’an.
So, our advice is to leave the copies of the Qur’an and it is up to the charity to make use of these copies before reformatting the hard drive.
