Witnessing a daughter’s pain is one of the most difficult trials for a parent, as children are truly “our hearts walking on the ground.” However, the reward from Allah is always proportionate to the degree of pain and endurance.
Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:
“For those who do good is good (reward) and more (than this); and blackness or ignominy shall not cover their faces; these are the dwellers of the garden; in it they shall abide.” (Surah Yunus, 10:26)
This article addresses the medical implications of vaginal bleeding in young girls and the recommended spiritual remedies.
Understanding the Symptoms
It is important to distinguish between normal and abnormal symptoms.
- Newborns: Vaginal bleeding in the first few weeks of life is quite normal. It indicates that the body’s systems are working as the baby withdraws from the hormones she received from her mother in utero.
- Pre-puberty (Current Case): Bleeding after the neonatal period up until the signs of puberty (around age seven or eight) is not normal.
If a 4.5-year-old girl experiences this, she should be thoroughly examined without delay. The diagnosis should be made with urgency so appropriate therapy can be given.
Conditions for Examination
To ensure the child’s safety and psychological well-being, the medical examination should fulfill two conditions:
- Professionalism: It must be done by a practitioner experienced in the gynecological care of children.
- Anesthesia: It should be done under anesthesia. This is not necessarily because of pain, but to ensure the child does not retain a traumatic memory of the procedure. A professional exam will keep the hymen intact without harm.
Potential Medical Causes
Vaginal bleeding in children can stem from several causes:
- Vaginitis: Inflammation due to infection. A culture can determine the bacteria, which usually responds well to antibiotics and local care.
- Foreign Objects: One of the most common reasons. Objects like cotton, paper, or small items may be lodged inside.
- Trauma: Injury to the vulva from falling or straddling an object.
- Urethral Prolapse: The urethra turns inside out. This often resolves with warm soaks and topical creams.
- Local Lesions: Benign or malignant tumors (rare but serious).
- Precocious Puberty: Early onset of puberty.
- Systemic Issues: Conditions like leukemia, pinworms, or blood deficiencies (e.g., Thalassemia or Sickle Cell Anemia).
Spiritual Remedies (Ruqyah and Du’a)
Alongside seeking medical care at a well-equipped hospital, Islam prescribes spiritual remedies to aid healing.
1. Supplication (Du’a) The Du’a made in the last third of the night is like the arrow of fate—it does not miss. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught the following supplication for pain:
“Our Lord is Allah Who is in the heaven, holy is Thy name, Thy command reigns supreme in the heaven and the earth, as Thy mercy in the heaven, make Thy mercy in the earth; forgive us our sins, and our errors; Thou art the Lord of good men; send down mercy from Thy mercy, and remedy, and remedy from Thy remedy on this pain so that it is healed up.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 3883)
2. Additional Acts of Worship
- Salat-ul Hajah: Pray two units (Rak`ahs) of the Prayer of Need daily.
- The 3 Quls: Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas over the child every day.
- Charity (Sadaqah): Give charity in the cause of Allah, as it helps in healing the sick.
