Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. I have an 11-year-old daughter and would like to know exactly how to approach her and advise her about menstruation. I am very shy, but I want to try to tell her beforehand and to give her all information pertaining to what the religion has asked us to know on this subject. Jazakum Allah khayran.
Dear brothers, does Islam give parents right to force their children to choose a certain course of study? Let me explain myself. If a child wants to become a doctor or an engineer but his parents want him to change subject, can he be forced to do so? Do they have right to do that?
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. Are the parents responsible for the sins of an evil child, or is everyone responsible for his/her own deeds? Jazakum Allah khayran.
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. I love one of my cousins who also shares the same feelings. However, some of our relatives spread some untrue business regarding us. My parents wanted my older brother to marry the same woman, even if he dislikes it. I ask you, what is my and her right to marry with our choice (with the happiness of both families) according to Isla m? Jazakum Allah khayran.
As-salamu `alaykum. I am trying to teach my son, who is seven and a half years old, about Islam and Allah. I had a hard time answering him when he asked me where is Allah and why he cannot see Allah. I told him, “Can you see the air you breathe that helps you live?” He is not convinced though. Please help me.
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. How should the relationship between a daughter and her parents be? Jazakum Allah khayran.
As-Salamu `alaykum! Please I would like to know the stance of Islam on the children’s cartoon known as "Pokemon" which has sparked off frenzied controversy, to the extent that it has been banned by the Saudi government. Some people misconstrue the word "Pokemon" as implying polytheism, while others say that it is Latin in origin, referring to certain animals. Please kindly enlighten us on this issue.
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. What amount of affection can a husband and wife display in front of their children? Can they hug, kiss lightly, and hold hands in front of their children? Jazakum Allah khayran.
As-salamu `alaykum. I am a twenty-eight year old Muslim woman who has found a man who wishes to marry me. He is a few months older than me and I wish to marry him in the name of Allah. He has come to ask for my hand and my parents have agreed. However, his parents are against the marriage simply because they think I am too old, even though I am younger than him. I am not his parents' type or culture even though he and I love each other.
What is the best arrangement for my son to study for his exams during Ramadan? Should he stay up late after iftar (meal to break fast) and study? Or should he sleep earlier, wake up for sahur (the meal before fasting) and commence from there? What do you think is the best arrangement?
How is it possible to tell our children what is Ramadan all about? As a mother, I am very much concerned to teach them the spiritual benefits of Ramadan: It is not about starving ourselves, it is about getting closer to our Creator, to discipline our body and to enhance our spiritual status. What tips and advice can you give us?
How do we make children realize the importance of reciting the holy Qur’an and offering Prayer during Ramadan? They think that Ramadan is only about abstaining from food and drink; when we tell them that there is more than that, they are not interested in learning and following instructions.
Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. At what age should children start fasting during Ramadan, according to the Shari`ah? Jazakum Allahu Khayran
Al-hamdu lillah, I am a revert to Islam. I have a 6-year-old son who is used to celebrating Christmas but I have started teaching him about Islam through contact with other Muslim families and attending Friday Prayers. I would like to know how to introduce the concept of Ramadan to my son.
My child is in a public school, surrounded by many non-Muslim peers. When it is Ramadan, my child actually does not want to fast, as it makes him feel so different from the others. How can I help my child deal with the feeling of difference and, sometimes, inferiority?
As-Salamu `alaykum. How can we start introducing the month of Ramadan to our children who are not at the age of fasting yet?
Asalaam-o-Alaikum,Our son is 14 yrs old and we started to make him Fast last time but we found out that he just goes to school and eats. We are sure he will do the same this time. What do we do ? Do we still make him Fast ?Allah Hafiz.
Can my daughter study in a Christian school because there is no any Islamic school near my home? Is there any problem in that? Thanks.
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. Is it true that there is a Hadith that states that a man can or should divorce his wife when the parents advise so? Jazakum Allah khayran.
Many fathers and mothers make supplications against their children when they make mistakes and err. I would like you to give some words of advice to them concerning that matter.
I am a Muslim woman married to a Catholic man. We want to have children, but I want them to be Muslims and my husband wants them to be baptized in his religion as Catholics. We want to find out if they can be Muslim (fasting, praying etc...) as well as be baptized in the Catholic religion. Can you help me to find the right way to go about this situation?
As-Salamu `Alaykum. Could you please clarify in detail the Islamic way of raising children?
As-Salamu `alaykum. It is stated that it is fard `ayn (an individual obligation) to listen to parents as it is obligatory on us to offer the Prayer, but it is only a sunnah to get married. Thus many parents force children to get married by using this principle. Please clarif y this because I am in a similar predicament.
As-salamu `alaykum. My husband hit our 9- month-old baby on the butt, on the diaper, because the baby cries whenever he sees him. One day, he hit him harder than usual and I took the baby from him. He told me not to take the child away when he is disciplining him. He told me I did not know how hard he hit the baby because the baby cries all the time anyway. How can you discipline a baby? A baby does nothing to be disciplined for. My husband further stated that if I did not like his tactics, we can divorce and have a custody (court) battle. I told him that he would not get the child in this country. He said it would be my word against his. Should Muslims spank infants (newborn to three years) or hit them at all? Is it worth divorcing over?
Dear scholars, As-Salamu `alaykum. Do you think that a girl should at least get her high school diploma before she gets married? My parents say I should get married now but I didn’t even finish high school yet! I would like to wait until I graduate at least before getting married. What should I do? Jazakum Allah khayran.
Could you please shed light on the importance of showing respect towards one’s parents in the light of the Qur’an and Hadith keeping in mind the rude behavior of children of the present times?
