Dr. Salah Sultan, President of the American Center for Islamic Research, Columbus, Ohio, and Member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, states the following: “During cold season, all one needs is to do is to make wudu’ in the morning and then put on socks, after which wiping over the socks will be valid for one day and night if you are not traveling and for three days and nights if you are traveling. During this period, you can wipe over the socks without removal. Wiping over the socks has been narrated from four companions of the Prophet, may Allah be pleased with them, and it is a valid Sunnah that we can use especially in situations like yours.
