Dr. Muhammad Abu Laylah, professor of the Islamic Studies & Comparative Religions atAl-Azhar Univ. states: “The Torah and the Gospel were equally revealed by Allah and contain the words of Allah. The Qur’an tells Muslims to believe in the Torah and the Gospel and they are sacred. In the Qur’an Almighty Allah says that the Torah and the Gospel contain Divine light and guidance.
The Qur’an also tells that the two books suffered some corruption and alteration later at the hands of man. The Qur’an was safeguarded by Allah against corruption or alteration since it is the last and final message Allah sent to humanity.
The Qur’an contains some basic teachings of the Torah and the Gospel. So, as Muslims, we should believe in the two Books but it is not necessarily to believe that every word in the Torah and the four Gospels standing now is God’s since the corruption took place but we have to respect others’ beliefs and sacred Books.
