A Muslim has to believe in the jinn. They are mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. In many instances, they share with us many of our roles and actions. However, it is noticeable nowadays that many people, when they feel anything wrong with themselves, interpret that as a matter of possession by jinn. In fact, many of them will change their mind after they go to a doctor who checks up to find out that the person is diagnosed to have some physical or psychological problem. Regarding subjugating Jinn, Muslim or non-Muslim, this is said by sorcerers to cheat people and take their money. No one but Allah who can cause harm or benefit.
Sheikh `Abdul-Majeed Subh, a prominent Azharite scholar, states: “Imam Ibn Taymiyah and his student Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said that the saying that jinn can possess a man is untrue. However, the jinn can whisper the man and cooperate with him on evil via satanic whispers. So, the jinn can be a source of whispers for man.
As for subjugating Jinn in the sense of doing something for him or to ask the jinn to tell him something or to bring him something, such things are said by sorcerers to cheat the laymen and steal their money. Almighty Allah says, “Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee.” (Al-Hijr 42) So, the more one worships Allah well, the more Satan will have no power of whispering him and seducing him.”
