Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada , states: “As far as we can know based on our limited knowledge and as far as we can say from our understanding of the revelations: Adam was created from clay, and into the mould of the clay He breathed from His own spirit. How did he do so is beyond our comprehension, for as the Qur’an tells us: “I never made them witness the creation of heavens and earth nor of their own creation.” We are therefore best advised to stop speculating on such matters. Reason can only take us so far. This is what is meant by the article of faith, namely belief in the ghayb (matters that lie beyond human cognition). So let us pray to Allah so that we are not carried away by our excessive reliance on reason in such matters – ameen.“
