twelve imams

Dear Scholar's, As-salamu` alaikum. I'm a student living in asia. I was wondering if you could explain more to me about the 12 imams of ahlul bayt. Are they divineas in Masoom like what the shiite believes? As a sunni muslim, would it be forbidden/sinful if a sunni muslim coverts to the shiite believes meaning by being the followers of the 12 imams? With alot of false religion on the rise claiming to be islam in this region of asia, i don't want to be astray from the teachings of our beloved prophet. In need of guidance. Jazakum Allahu Khayrun.
