Assalamu alaikum  I am a medical student and for the past year or so I would sometimes need to pray zuhur in the hospital.Recently I discovered I was praying in the wrong direction....ie.I would pray slanting to my left while the qiblah was slanting to the right.What is the situation of my prayers with the incorrect qiblah,and must I repeat them ? The local mosque in the hospital has its qibla oriented in this wrong direction as well.And how far off must one be to be considered not directed correctly to the qiblah?Jazakum Allah khairan barak Allahu fikum for this wonderful service.May we all be dwellers of His Jannah in shaa Allah..

As-Salamu `alaykum. What are the situations in which we can face a direction other than the qiblah in Prayer?

Respected Scholars, As-salamu `alaykum. I would like to ask you a question which has been on my mind for very long. I was outside and the time for Prayer came, but the place had no mosque or place to pray. I didn’t have a compass at the time due to forgetfulness. I can tell the direction of the sun but on that day the sky was not clear and I couldn’t see the sun. So I prayed in a car park facing a pillar as the sutrah. Is my Prayer valid? Should I repeat it? Please provide me with an answer.

I have a question regarding the qiblah. What is the qiblah actually? We pray in the direction of the qiblah but what is the need for actually doing so? What is the geographic importance of the qiblah? I look forward to your answer!

As-Salamu `alaykum! Dear brothers, some people say that you cannot face the qiblah when you go to the toilet and neither should your back be in that direction. Others say that this statement is only correct if you are in an open place and there is no harm if a partition is between the qiblah and the person answering the call of nature. Yet, others say that this statement applies only to Makkah. Please guide us. May Allah reward you all for this great site!

Respected scholars, as-salamu `alaykum. Is there any reasoning mentioned anywhere for changing the qiblah from Jerusalem to Makkah? Jazakum Allahu khayran.

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.May Allah's Peace and Blessing be upon you.Dear Respected Scholars,How did the early muslims from the Prophet Muhammad's (May Allah's Peace and Blessing be upon him) time and later determine the Qiblah direction? Like in Al-Madinah and other areas outside Makkah. The reason I ask is that when I am away from home and need to offer my salat, I do not know the Qiblah direction. My mother told me that you can work it out by using the sun. I also know you can work it out using a compass but I do not carry it with me, especially when traveling. It is not because I do not want to, it just nobody carry it unless you're camping. Please tell me how to work it out using the sun, it will be a great help to me. And also tell me some other methods If am not not aware of. May Allah immensely reward you.
